Whats the difference?

I have had a lot of people ask me what the difference is between the models that were available to 58 Plymouths.  And the answer is always the same-- Not that much at all.  So I created this page to help explain what I mean using pictures.

The "Fury"

The Third Limited Edition Fury by Plymouth- "for the man who really loves cars."  An automobile of extraordinary beauty and performance, this fabulous new Fury surpasses even its distinguished predecessors.  The body color is beautiful new Buckskin Beige trimmed in Gold.

**Fury's were only offered in Buckskin Beige trimmed in Gold-- no other colors.  This is one flaw of the book/movie-- Christine in all actuality-- is a Belvedere.  Look below to find out why.

The "Belvedere"

Plymouth's brilliant new Belvedere models rank among America's most impressive automobiles.  From the outside, you see a long, low, sleek car with the most advanced styling on the road.  15 exciting new exterior colors-in many attractive combinations.  Silver anodized aluminum Sportone trim (optional) sweeps majestically back to the graceful Directional Stabilizers.  Up front, dual headlights gleam from the massive new grille.  Spacious Belvedere interiors are available in a wide range of striking new fabrics.  See all five sparkling models of the proud new Belvedere, Plymouth's premier line of great automobiles.

**This is the model that Christine is-- because it was available in different colors.

The "Savoy"

Here are the most luxurious, most beautiful Savoy models in Plymouth history!  Never before have so much glamour and excitement been found in any "middle-of-the-line" low-price car.  And this year's Savoys have the performance to match their good looks--with a choice of four great engines, topped by the new Golden Commando V-8.  As for color, there are 15 distinctive new exterior hues... and a wide variety of upholstery fabric-and-color choices.

The "Plaza"

Plymouth's traditional "price leader" comes of age as one of the most striking cars on the road!  All three new Plaza models are authentic beauties.  With the widest choice of exterior color combinations and upholstery materials in Plaza history, Plaza owners now have options formerly reserved only for higher-priced lines.  The many advances that put Plymouth ahead for keeps have been incorpoerated in every Plaza.

The "Station Wagons"

Plymouth's station wagons compete, in beauty, with glamourous passenger cars-- yet are big and rugged enough to carry cargo any family could wish to transport.  All models are 122-inch wheelbase with over 100 cubic feet of cargo space.  Rear-facing 3rd seat, back "steps" for easy entry, concealed luggage compartment (optional on 6-passenger models only), electric rear window that disappears into tailgate are exclusively Plymouth's in the low-price field.

Christine

Heres the reasons I say Christine is a Belvedere and not any other model.  As I said before-- Fury's were only available in Buckskin Beige and Gold.  Obviously-- this is not Christine.  Belvedere was almost exactly like the Fury except they were offered in various other colors (like red and white).  Next its not a plaza or a savoy because of the white stripe-- and the chrome.  The Savoy's stripe goes down and to the back bumper.  The Plaza's stripe goes down and stops infront of the rear tire.  And for obvious reasons (I dont need to explain) its not the Station wagon.  And as a conclusion-- any model of 58 Plymouth can look like Christine-- with a little different paint-- some new chrome here and there-- presto its Christine.

A couple more ways to make a Christine

Using a 1957 Plymouth

You can use a 1957 Plymouth to make a Christine.  All you have to do is change the front grille-- add the lower grille-- remove the single headlight bezel-- and make it a dual headlight bezel.  Then the back-- just remove the tailight assembly and add a 58 taillight assembly.  I wouldnt suggest using a '59 plymouth.  The reason is-- the rear end-- if you look-- has a skinnier fin-- and the tailights are below the trunk and not in the fin.  So unless your going to do some major cutting and welding-- dont try it.

Using a 1958 Dodge

You can use a 58 Dodge.  Change the fenders-- the front end-- and the hood.  I think you have to do the same thing to the rear end-- with the tailight assemblys-- switch them out.  Jeff (Webmaster) of Plymouth Central is doing this.  He is taking a  1958 Dodge and changing it into a 58 Plymouth.  Im not for sure if you can use a 57 Dodge-- and a 59 Dodge.  This information I will dig up for you-- and get back to you.

This info also comes from that brochure I have -- But the picture of the Fury (at the top) came from www.plymouthcentral.com-- If you do not wish to have your car on there-- again just write me and let me know and I'll remove it.
